What are Non-Smokers Thinking?

When you come up to shake somebody's hand and they take a step back from the overwhelming smell of tobacco, look at your yellow teeth, sallow complexion and pre-age wrinkles - I wonder what their thinking?

So I took a look through the search engine world. Here's a little of what is running through that person's head:

1. Smokers are weak willed. After seeing someone dieing from emphasema I don't know why people don't stop smoking. Its like driving into a brick wall, you see the wall and hit the brakes. I know a few people who have quit smoking, those guys are strong willed. They realised the problem with smoking and stopped.

2. Some smokers don't care about where their smoke go. In fact I've met about 1 smoker who actually cared about the people he was with and made a point of watching where his smoke would go.

3. Smoking is definitly a bad habit. How is it not?

4. You do smoke in our restaurants. You do smoke in our trains and our busses. How do I know? Because I have to put up with the smoke.

5. Smoking is a disgusting habit that you spend way too much time trying to justify.

I think it's very hard for non-smokers to not get "angry" about smoking because it seems so pointless. In this day and age, it's hard to grasp that someone can hear all the negatives of smoking, the impact on your health, the amount of money you'd spend on cigarettes, the amount of people who've died from it, the physical effects (bad breath, yellow fingers, yellow teeth etc) that a lot of smokers get - and still keep smoking. For me, yes, I understand the urge to impress a love interest, but I would never do anything detrimental to my health to do it. To me, it seems like there are so many negatives with smoking and you only hear one positive - destressing or giving a head rush. Neither of which seem to outweigh all the bad parts. (And you can destress in healthier ways - lie down with a book/tv... have a bath, get a massage etc) People say they love smoking - it seems more likely they like the social aspect - hanging out with other smokers, making friends with smokers, impressing someone, being "cool" - and the actual act is not great. It only feels good because you're addicted. It just baffles me that something so pointless and over-all bad for you can still be considered cool - buying into that seems silly. Why would you want to be with someone who doesn't want to know you because you don't smoke? It's also funny to me that smokers say the same things in defense - "it's my body. let me do what I want with it" - fair call, but we look out for each other. We encourage people to wear seatbelts and protective gear when necessary to help them live longer, if we know someone on drugs we want to get them help. It's their life, but why is it so bad to not want other human beings to die horrible deaths? (And lung or throat cancer is an awful way to die - seen it) or die young because of something so unnecessary and avoidable? Yes, you want us to bugger off and leave you to it, and I don't hassle smokers, but the sentiment behind those who do is one I can relate to. It's a frustration. You see someone doing something "stupid", and it's very hard not to say WHYYYYYY?? SO POINTLESS! STOP THAT.Kinda the same urge I get when I see someone telling their kid that god created the earth 6000 years ago... you just want to jump in and tell them to stop ignoring facts.

What do NON-smokers think about smokers?

Not what you think about smoking, but your image of the PEOPLE that smoke.

Do you think smokers are gross? They have no will power? Please tell me your thoughts on people that smoke cigarettes.

It depends on their age and how they look.

But generally when I seen a teen smoke (I'm a teen myself) I see them as disgusting and irresponsible.

However when I see adults smoke, I still see it as gross and disgusting, but I see them differently. I wouldn't see them as trying to 'fit in' as i would for teens.

Either the smoker isn't educated enough to know it's bad for them, or they are and just don't have enough common sense to care. Either way it's a very big turn off and looks trashy or uneducated

When i see a smoker I think of them as a loser and a addicted disgusting cigarette smoking nasty. Smokers are disgusting!

Did you hear the joke about the man who smoked his whole life? It's gonna kill ya

Gross dumb
