Smoke Exposure

Thomas3.20.2010

Cigarette smoke exposure fundamentally alters airway tissue from people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at the cellular level, laying the groundwork for airway thickening and even precipitating precancerous changes in cell proliferation that may be self-perpetuating long after cigarette smoke exposure ends, according to Australian researchers. Notice that the research makes no distinction among 1st hand smoke, 2nd hand smoke, and 3rd hand smoke! All are dangerous to your health and the health of your loved ones! If you don't have COPD yourself, you are not only risking your own health, but the health of every single member of your family! This is especially true for family members who have asthma! If you do have COPD, you need to avoid all contact with smoking, not just your own, but anybody with whom you come in contact! Learn how to manage your Emphysema and COPD by joining our Emphysema Support Group. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
