I found this online today. It spoke to me. I can't give credit to the author because no source was given. When you get to the end about how much each amount of time is worth, think about how it feels to YOU in relation to smoking...
Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $84,600, which is the exact number of seconds in one 24-hour day.
It carries over to a zero balance from day to day. Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. So, what would you do?
Draw out every cent before each day was done? Of course, you would!!
However, each of us has such a bank. The name of the bank is TIME.
Every morning, TIME credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose. It carries over no balance for the next day . It allows no overdraft.
Each day, TIME opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the days deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against "tomorrow".
You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success.
The clock is running.
To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a pre-mature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.
TIME is everthing, dear EXers.
And every second we spend/spent smoking robs us of these moments that we could have been living and making real memories.
(I don't usually get so emotional!)
