~~Be bold. Be thankful. Be quiet.  Be original.  Be spontaneous.  Be punctual.  Be a star. Be loving.  Be loud.  Be crazy.  Be young.  Be adorable.  Be random.  Be unique.  Be daring.  Be obnoxious.  Be yourself.~~  Unknown

I have a grandson who people say looks like Bruno Mars.  He would get upset when they teased him.  He told me that he wasn't Bruno Mars and he didn't like to sing.  That's how he connected those dots.

Sometimes that happens here as well.  New quitters think they have to quit like Terry did or Giulia did or Dale did.  They think if they 'follow directions', their quit will happen without all the icky stuff that tends to go along with breaking an addiction.

Not true. Of course it's not true!

One quitter decided to quit by just 'sticking it out'. No quit kit, no coping skills, no NRTs, no support.  He just was going to white knuckle through it.  He now has been 3 years quit.

Another decided she was going to change her routine.  She would drink tea instead of coffee (that was a trigger for her). She would sit on the back porch instead of the front. She changed her route to work to avoid her cigarette store.  She has been quit for 180 days and going strong.

Still a third used an NRT.  He also stayed in contact with his doctor, his therapist, and his quit smoking peers.  He said he wanted both professional and personal supports because he couldn't do it alone.  His quit is over two years strong.

My point is simply to do your quit your way.  Whatever works for you.  Don't be surprised when certain suggestions from others don't work for you.  You are unique.  You have your likes, dislikes, routines, weirdnesses, quirks.  That's true for all of us.  And we all had to find our own way.

My grandson felt better when I reminded him that people probably told Bruno Mars that he looked like 'this kid named Jaylen'.  He just wanted to be him, not someone else.  We all do, don't we?  Quit your way.  It'll work better
