Your quit garden.

I love to garden both summer and fall.  This year my fall garden was impacted by hurricane Matthew.  We didn’t get the hurricane but the torrential rains washed the newly planted collards away.   After making an attempt to salvage them another windy rain storm came and beat those plants down.  Every plant…….Gone.   Fortunately or unfortunately, I had also planted collard and kale seeds.  The seeds had washed all over the garden.  What was I to do?  I had to “wait” until the new seedlings were strong enough to be transplanted. Since the seedling were various sizes the process had to be done gradually.   After three weeks of transplanting, fertilizing, cultivating my fall garden has finallybeen recovered from the storms.

Gardening is a reflective time for me. Today my thoughts paralleled quitting smoking to gardening.  Last year the moles ate the collards immediately after concocting this organic lavender insect repellant.  What a disappointment but I got rid of the moles, however no collards. This summer the gophers attacked the cucumbers.  Got rid of the gophers, but I canned fewer pickles.  I realize how tenacious I am about gardening and that I did't give up. 

Like quitting smoking we have to be tenacious.  (determined)  We have to plan and have a backup when things seems to be running amuck.  We have to be on guard to think quickly of what to do when we are confronted with the choice to smoke or not to smoke.  We have to be willing to wait, think it through, use the tools and allow those cravings and urges to go away so no matter what is happening in our lives we don’t smoke.  We have to fertilize our quits with the knowledge of nicotine addiction.  We have to water and cultivate with a support system like EX.  Just like a garden we have to turn the soil to relearn a new way of living and thinking  to grow.  We have to have the proper tools and keep them sharpened to do the work.  So you can look at your quit as a garden that takes time to harvest.  Each day we have to check the garden to see what it needs to produce.    We have to do the same thing with our quit, taking one day at a time working it  to do what is necessary to stay smoke free.  Have success in your quit garden hang tough, stay close do not give up or give in.  Protect your quit.   Thanks for listening, smoke free 652 days.

Lay aside every weight that may be slowing you down. Make up your mind not to allow doubt cause you to stumble. You can do this! Do not allow fear , False Expectations Appearing Real to hold you down. You can do this! Break the chains of addiction, forgive yourself for ever smoking. move forward and start loving yourself more each day by staying smokefree. Put aside worry, anxiety, depression, any EXcuse that you would use to not get in or stay in the race of freedom. Take one day at a time, one step if necessary. Run the race diligently, steady and sure with endurance. Believe that you can. Keep your eye on the prize. Hang tough, stay close, be mindful, never give in, never give up.
