Share your quitting journey
I am quite sure you have heard the phrase”mind over matter”. You take it with you to the gym. You use it when you are trying to accomplish a difficult task. It simply means that your mind is “the force” you are using to get the job done. We often hear it here in the format of “it’s what’s between the ears”. That phrase resonated with me when I first came here.
Okay, so mind over matter; why can’t it be used also to quit smoking? Well, in my opinion it can to some degree but it has to work with “no matter what”. IF you learn about nicotine addiction IF you are willing to go through the process of changing your thought patterns which changes behavior and lifestyle. Yes, it can be done but it takes time to relearn something we have believed. It requires an a open mind and willingness to do whatever is necessary not to smoke NO MATTER WHAT.NOPE
As an addict we take a defense when someone is telling us the truth about the Excuses we use to continue smoking. Or just make new EXcuses.. We have to start to realize as nicotine addicts we are in denial just like any other type of addict. Our brains have been feed so many lies from the tobacco industry that they are so engrained in our thoughts. How about these, “cigarettes taste good and are good for us” or "we have to and need" to smoke. ALL LIES.
In quitting sometimes we become vulnerable to culprits who promote products that don’t work or continue the addiction if not used properly. It is a requirement that we debunk all the lies we have been told. We must accept the fact nicotine is a drug. Like other addictive drugs we must go through withdrawal and change our way of thinking. It is not easy in the beginning but doable. IF you engage your mind to read the suggested material. Come here to read blogs, do the pledges and affirmations, ask questions and participate your mind will gradually change. Sure, we have tried some crazy things to quit smoking and failed but with willingness and determination, education and with changing of the mind we will be successful (transformed). We can no longer allow our addictive brain to rule telling us that we can’t. By placing our MINDS OVER MATTER we CAN. Start telling yourself just that….”Yes I can and I will not take that one puff. NO MATTER WHAT. Take control of your mind. It is your force and your armor.
My name is Jackie and I am an addict free from nicotine 632 days.
