Being Human

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 31, 2014

~~Life becomes more precious and more special to us when we look for the little miracles every day and get excited about the privileges of simply being human.~~  Unknown

Isn't it the truth?!  I get excited about waking in the morning, knowing I get to wake my son, hear my grandson laugh, and hugging my granddaughter.  I get to take care of my precious family.  I get to be loved by my amazing friends.  Miracles happen all the time and I get to look for them.  I get to appreciate being outside breathing the fresh air, hearing the birds sing, and feeling the breeze on my face.

Life is precious.  And we are not promised tomorrow.  So I hope that we can live in this moment and really, really feel grateful that we are here.  I appreciate all of you.....your hearts, your kindness, your willingness to be here helping others.

I appreciate those who are here quitting.  Feeling scared, nervous, or anxious but being brave enough to express themselves and quit regardless.  Every cigarette not smoked is a victory.  Every blog written to share a bit of yourself is an honor to read.  Every kind word appreciated.

You may not believe how precious you are.  But I know.  And I'm sometimes here to remind you that you mean so much to the world.  And you mean the world to so many.  So celebrate yourselves :)  Celebrate living today.  Celebrate you!!  You are a miracle.

Peace to you and yours today.  May you shine bright......

Sheri

What can you do besides smoke when you are stressed?  When you are bored?  When you are lonely?  I've got a few ideas :)

Instead of smoking, you can:

Give a flower

Eat lunch with someone new

Listen with your heart

visit a sick friend

Clean a neighbor's walk

Pick up litter

Give an unexpected gift

Call a lonely person

Buy someone's meal

Thank a teacher

Give blood

Leave a thank you note

Tip generously

Do one kind act every day

Pay the next driver's toll

Bake cookies for emergency workers

Give a compliment

Forgive mistakes

Do a favor

Share a smile

I could go on and on, of course!  There is so much to do rather than smoke.  And you will feel so much better about yourself if you choose to do something other than smoking.  So what do you do rather than smoke?  I'd love to see a list from everyone.....because I dream big rather than smoke :)

Hope you have a lovely, magical, peaceful day!!

Keep Holding On

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 24, 2014

~~I know it hurts.  I know that.  But if you give up now, you may be missing something greater than you could ever imaging & no one wants to miss something that will change their life forever.  Keep holding on & I promise it will get better.~~ Unknown

That's true for most everything in life.  If you hold on long enough, the bad fades, the sun shines, and the world balances once again.  If you can feel the hope......my gosh!!  Hope feels wonderful!!  It gives me a sense of anticipation and wonder.  Miracles happen every day....so why not to me?  Lovely things happen to everyone....so why not to me?  And then, sure enough, those miraculous, wonderful things do happen and life is so very, very good!

Same with you, my friends.  Keep that hope because you never know what good lies around that next corner.  Something miraculous may occur just around the bend.  Why not you????  You are important, you are precious, and you deserve wonderful!!

So keep that hope....that unshakeable knowledge that something extraordinary will happen in your life.  Feel the anticipation and revel in the wonder of the world.  It will get you through anything.....I promise.

May you have a lovely day today :)

~~The most delightful surprise in life is to suddenly recognize your own worth.~~  Unknown

Sometimes the best thing about quotes is the truth they bring to light, don't you think?  And this one really shines because of its truth.  It is utterly dellightful when you suddenly realize that you don't deserve the negatives in life.  You deserve more because you are so much more than:

a parent

a sibling

a worker

a face in the crowd

Your worth?  Priceless, my friend!!  You are more precious than gold, more cherished than you know, more beloved than you realize.  Its when you recognize your worth that your world starts to change.  You treat  yourself better and by doing so, others treat you better as well.  In other words, you don't put up with less than good.  No one will be allowed to hurt your feelings anymore because you are in charge of them.  Nothing can stress  you out anymore because you control how you feel.  The world doesn't guide your emotions anymore....you guide your emotions.

Kinda cool, huh?  One great thing here is that you won't need to smoke your problems away because you will be able to handle them!  No more hiding, no more puffing through your issues!!  You are worth much more.

Life is life and it moves through good times, bad times, ugliness, and pain.  You can't change life.  But you can, you really, really can change your perception of what you want and what you deserve in life.  Don't settle for less than what you are worth.  And you are worth all the good, all the sweetness, all the joy that this world has to offer.  You are priceless.

~~the most wasted of all days is one without laughter.~~  ee  cummings

So let's not waste the day!!

~~The other day, someone was telling me they make ice cubes out of left over wine.  I was confused.  What's left over wine?~~

~~After exercising, I always eat pizza.  Just kidding!!  I don't ever exercise.~~

~~If history repeats itself, I am so getting a dinosaur!~~

~~I know the voices aren't real, but man do they come up with some good ideas!~~

I hope you giggle today.  I hope you hear the laughter of loved ones and feel the joy in your soul.  Don't let something as trivial as a cigarette ruin this lovely day.  It won't come again.  So enjoy......

At My Own Pace

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 20, 2014

~~The time has come to accept and embrace exactly who you are and exactly where you are today.  Truly love yourself and realize deeply that you have great worth.  Then decide and commit to heal past wounds, to do your best, and to improve yourself for yourself at your own pace every day from now on.~~  Doe Zantamata

What a wonderful, lovely Monday morning!!  Today is the beginning of a week filled with endless possibilities for magic and miracles :)   I love Mondays.  And I truly do love myself as well.  I get tickled when I actually accomplish things that I set out to do.  Including my quit, of course.  I get delighted at 100 days, 365 days, 500 days....I think I will celebrate forever!

I now take life at my own pace.  I won't be rushed, I won't be pushed, I won't be distracted.  I quit at my own pace.  I got back in shape at my own pace.  And I'm learning.....at my own pace!

I hope all learn to love themselves!  I hope all learn to heal past wounds and may all of you understand your worth.  You are precious and deserve all the good in life.  Have an amazing day!!

Knowing Me

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 17, 2014

~~When you know yourself, you are empowered.  When you accept yourself, you are invincible.~~  Tina Lifford

I not only have gotten to know myself over the past few years, I actually like who I am...flaws, faults, quirks, and oddities.  I don't apologize for my feelings, my actions, or my ideas anymore (although I would if I should).  I know me.  I know that when I'm hurting, I need to take good care of myself.  I know that when I'm happy, I shouldn't try to contain it.  I know that when I'm being unreasonable, I need to acknowledge it.

A family friend passed away recently......I've known him since I was a teen.  Suddenly and forever gone in the blink of an eye.  So I am hurting and taking good care of myself through this agonizing time.  I haven't spoken much to friends or family.  I just need to get through this step by step, day by day.

No smoking thoughts and that's not why I'm here today.  No little reminders that life is short and we need to make the most of every minute.

I simply wanted to say that you can get through life by knowing yourself.  Know what you need to get through good days and bad days.  Know what you need to pull yourself together during times when you want to fall apart.  Know what you need to continue smiling.

Today is my 500th smoke free day.  Anyone can quit smoking.  You don't need a magic wand....you need to know yourself.  Be honest with yourself. Take care of yourself.  Trust in yourself.  And simply do it.

I do apologize if I rambled a bit. There is a message here.....somewhere.  Be good to yourself today.  You matter to the world.

Sheri

I don't usually write two blogs in one day, as I figure that suffering through one is enough for most people :)  But I wanted you to stop for a moment this day and really think about how well you treated yourself today.

Did you take the time this morning to remind yourself how wonderful you are?  Did you eat a healthy lunch?  Did you spend 10 minutes just doing something you love?  Did you surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers?

My point is simply that by taking good care of you each and every day, you will be better able to:

*  keep your beautiful quit going

* have the energy to take care of your family

* feel happier at work

* feel happier at home

* have the energy to get off the couch

*  have the confidence to speak your mind

* have the courage to stand up for others

Well, you get the general idea.  Be kind to yourself, treat yourself gently and well, and never forget how important you are to this site, your family, your friends, the world!  You really, really do matter :)

Ok, second blog is over with now.  Hope you are smiling, feeling good about yourself, and treating yourself well.

Happy week-end!!

Sheri

~~You're strong, you're important, you're loved, you're special, you're needed, you're beautiful.  You can.  You matter.~~  Unknown

You are all these things....amd more!!  If you doubt it, try saying these things to yourself-out loud-every day.  You'll start to believe it after a while, as the brain believes what it hears often.

Why is it important?  Because you are important.  QuiItting smoking can save your life and your life matters.  So believe that you are needed, that you are special, that you are loved.  It helps you quit.

Just saying.........

I hope for you the very best that life has to offer.  May you start believing you deserve it!

Have a lovely, wonderful, happy day!

Just Because

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 9, 2014

~~You are a beautiful soul....amazing in your own way.  It may be your eyes, your smile, your laugh, your inner glow.....every one of us has a quality that someone else admires.~~  Unknown

May today be the day you realize just how amazing you are.  Unique, strong, brave, honest.....you have qualities that make you simply beautiful.

I do admire people here.  I admire those who are here every day with support and encouragement.  I admire those who use humor and grace to maintain their quits.  I admire those who find their strength.  Those who are able to cry.  Those who lift their chins and refuse to let life get them down.  Those who are creative, who use their talents, who have the courage to try something new.

You are admired.  Whether you see the good in yourself...whether you understand just how miraculous you are.....you need to know there are people who admire you.  Be it your strength, your courage, your laugh, or your honesty......others recognize it in you and admire you.

Does it really matter what others think of you?  No, I guess not.  But sometimes we have a tendency to be our own worse critics.  We think about the failures, the losses, the mistakes instead of all the beauty, the grace, the strength.  So I just wanted to remind you that we see that good in you when you may not see it yourself.

Just because I care.  Just because you matter.  Just because.

What a lovely day to be here!!

Sheri

I could have made a big mistake during the early days of my quit by not knowing what to do with myself during those "I have a urge to smoke" moments.....but I didn't.  I already had a list of things I wanted to do with myself rather than cave in.

Sheri's List of things to do:

1.  Go for a walk.

2.  Learn another language.

3.  Meditate.

4.  Make a list of things I'm grateful for.

5.  Learn to paint a tree.

6.  Write poetry.

7.  Dance

8.  Play an instrument.

9.  Listen to different types of music.

10.  Clean/declutter.

11.  Set a positive intention for the day.

12.  Plan something fun to look forward to.

13.  Volunteer my time.

14.  Accept and become aware of what I cannot control in a sutiation and focus on what I can control.

15.  Compliment at least two people a day.

16.  Develop my talents.

17.  Think about all the people who love me.

18.  Have a picnic.

19.  Name 3 positive attributes I have.

20.  Hula hoop

Ok, I had a much longer list....but you get the idea.  There are so many things to do in life!!  The world awaits your creativity, your kindness, your talents!  Fill your day with things you love to do.  Or things you want to do.  Or things you want to try.  The world awaits you so enjoy it.

Peace to all this beautiful morning.  Special hugs to Shawn....I hope you are feeling better, my friend!

Sheri

~~Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers; but most of all surround yourself with those who see greatness in you even when you don't see it yourself.~~  Unknown

What a lovely way to say surround yourself with positive people!  Because you should....everyone should.  Everyone should have those friends who support them, encourage them, and cheer for them.  The friends who will fight along side of them, celebrate with them, and who think the world of them.

Why?  I think because humans need that human connection.....that sweet faith in another....that knowledge that they aren't alone.

I know some people who don't have anyone.  They don't think they need anyone.  That's fine, too.  I would never presume to judge or to discount.  But I think, deep down, people do better and feel better having a friend.

I have 490 days of no smoking behind me....and many, many more non-smoking days ahead of me.  My friends were such a huge part of my quitting success.  My friends are such a huge part of my life!  When I doubted myself, they were there.  When I faltered, they held me up.  When I was discouraged, they encouraged.  Not because they had to but because they are good people who care :)

I am who I am because of friends like Bee Jay, Rick, Tommy, and so many more here and in my 3-D world.  I laugh more, love more, and am a better person because of them.

May you find friends who make you feel loved.  May you be that friend who loves.  Thank you all so much for being such a miracle in my life.  I'm blessed.

Believe in yourselves today and know that something in you is greater than ANY obstacle!!

Inspirations

Posted by Dancingthrulife_6.4.13 Oct 6, 2014

~~Breath in inspiration and trust yourself.  The answer is yes you can.~~  Unknown

Believing in myself took effort.  It didn't just happen.  I needed to work at it and remind myself not only could I do wonderful things, I was ok that I made mistakes.

Once I began to trust myself, life took on a whole new dimension.  I began to try new things, meet new people, and didn't worry so much about "failing".  Life was more enjoyable and exciting.

Now I wouldn't change my life at all.  More money?  Not really needed.  More friends?  I totally love the ones I have.  More wisdom?  It will come with experience and time.

Inspiration was all around me....I only needed to stop worrying, stop looking inward....and look at the world.  The beauty, the courage of others, the strength, the wisdom.......I learned and I grew.  And now I am happy, balanced, and enjoy life more than ever.

I believe in you as well.  You are unique individual who deserves to feel the joy and the see the beauty in life.  You are talented, stronger than you know, and worthy of all the good that is just waiting for you to see it.  Lift your eyes and your chin and feel the power that comes from believing in yourself and your abilities.

May you have peace and hope in this lovely Monday......and may this be the day you begin to trust in yourself.  It's a lovely feeling :)

Sheri

~~You have to be unique and different and shine in your own way.~~  Lady Gaga

I wish I could truly explain how wonderful it feels to be able to move through the day without thoughts of smoking.  No stink, no scrounging for enough change for a pack, no being alone tied to a cigarette.

I wish I could tell you how healthy it is not to be smoking.  How much more energy I have, how my hair now shines, and my lung capacity seems so much greater.

I wish I could tell you how extremely proud of me my family is.  They like me better now....even though they've always loved me...and I have so much more time to spend with them.

My journey is my own as your path is yours.  I cannot begin to describe all the emotions and the thoughts and the hopes of my journey although I do try to share.   I do know that life is so much prettier, joyous, and amazing now that I quit smoking.

Each of us has something we can do better than anyone else in the world.  It is our uniqueness that guides our journey and enriches our lives.  But each of us also has the same ability to quit smoking.

May your path be blessed with beauty and kindness, love and laughter.  May your day be filled with those who love you, lift you up, and believe in you.

Simply dancing today.......

~~Good moms let you lick the beaters.  Great moms turn them off first.~~  Anonymous

Sometimes you just have to laugh.  At life....at the day....at yourself.  Well, I do anyway :)  I make some goofs, I have some "oops" moments, and stress keeps poking at me.

Yesterday was full of "oops" moments.  Today has just started but since we are still chuckling over yesterday, I think I'm good!

Life isn't hard.  Life just is.  We tend to make it hard.  I avoid all hard things such as quadratic equations, anything metric, and changing my own oil.  I do more of what I'm good at, more of what I love.

Keeping life simple works for me.  Quitting wasn't hard like the metric system or curing cancer.  Quitting was a matter of changing my lifestyle.  It can be a struggle to replace a bad habit with good habits and it can be a struggle to get that nicotine out of your system but there is always light at the end of the quit tunnel. I focused on the light and moved forward one step at a time.

Laugh today, dear quitters!!  Laughter makes the day light and breezy :)  May your day be full of joy......

Sheri
