Sharing My Joys

~~Find out where the joy resides, and give it a voice far beyond singing.  For to miss the joy is to miss all.~~  Robert Louis Stevenson

When I stopped smoking 444 days ago, I also quit many other things.....yoga, walking, enjoying early morning outings.  I stopped because I was afraid of triggering a craving that I would not be able to control.  Silly, I know, but I wanted to quit so badly I was willing to do whatever it took to stay quit during those early days.

I quickly got back into walking!!  I now walk 4 miles almost every evening.  I need nature, I need the voices of the people I walk with, and I need the peace I find in moving.  I even run from time to time.

But last night I pulled out my favorite yoga DVD, my electric blue yoga mat, and my favorite workout clothes.  It was like coming home and I swear that my body was finally smiling!  The joy I felt from the familiar moves was simply marvelous.  Total joy.  No, I couldn't move as freely as I did last year but that wasn't the point.  I will get there as far as the moves.  The important part to me was the contentment.  The familiarity.  The joy.

I like to share these moments because I hope others can relate.  I hope someone is nodding and thinking, "I understand that."  But maybe not.

Maybe this isn't the right forum for me to share my thoughts.  Writing is one of my coping skills.  I also like to help people see the beauty in themselves.  Again, maybe this isn't the place to do it.

I guess I want you to be able to find your joy as you quit smoking.  Concentrate on the positives within yourself and that will always be stronger than the negatives that lead back to smoking.  Not everyone is a happy person.  Not everyone will believe in their beauty.  But everyone has their own passions.....and passions lead to contentment, strength, and a knowledge of your own power over your life.  Full circle, it means you can control your quit.  I just choose to do it with a smile and a quickstep 🙂

May today be your best day ever!!

Sheri
