To Be Yourself

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

I truly relate to that and have come to appreciate who I am, flaws and all.  But sometimes when people are going through their initial stages of quitting smoking, they tend to grasp at anything that will help.  I know I did in the past.  Patches work best....I'll try that.  Cold turkey works best...I'll do that.  I even went into the "she sounds sane.  Why can't I be like that?" when I was struggling with a past quit.  It's like thinking the whole world know how to quit but me.  When I finally decided that I needed to quit my way, regardless of whether anyone else understood or not, I did it....and I did it well!  I found what worked for me and in the process, I became more aware of who I was.  So if I were ever to offer any piece of advice, I would say.....

Quit your way.  Find what works for you.  If you want to whine, whine.  If you are a happy quitter (like our James), be happy.  If you need patches, use them.  Eat, drink, do whatever you need to do to find that success.  Simply do it your way.  Be yourself.  And, taking it one step further, enjoy being yourself!!  The more you love who you are, the easier your quit will come.

Be your own kind of beautiful, my friends!  Find joy in life and find joy in you.  Life's too short to do anything else :)
